The material of slewing bearing is generally 50Mn and 42CrMo. The 50Mn material is usually normalized and the hardness is about HB180-210. 42CrMo is the quenching and tempering process, and the modulation hardness is HB229-269. In fact, it is involved in this article, whether the bearing tooth surface needs to be quenched, and where are the advantages and disadvantages of quenching?


First of all, the purpose of quenching is to increase the strength of the gear, increase the hardness of the tooth surface, and achieve the purpose of wear resistance. Improve the life of the tooth surface. Suitable for tooth surface with high rotation frequency and large modulus. The advantages are obvious.

However, blindly quenching the tooth surface has an effect on the tooth profile, tooth direction, perpendicularity, common normal, tooth jump and other nominal parameters. Gears with small modulus may even warp and deform, which is not worth the loss. It should be known that the hardness of the slewing bearing itself basically meets the strength requirements of the bearing. Therefore, it is not recommended to quench the tooth surface if it is not necessary.
